When you are looking to purchase a
retractable banner the most important things to look for are:
- Height
- Base construction and substrate
- Ease of use
- Material the banner is printed on
There are many companies out there selling retractable trade-show banners and each shop has different standard sizes, uses different bases, and even prints on different materials.
Retractable Banner Height
First let’s take a look at the height of the retractable banner. If you are displaying the retractable banner in a hallway or office make sure you are clear of the ceiling, or fire sprinklers. Some trade shows may be in a room with really high ceilings, however there may be maximum height requirements for items in your booth. At Excel Printing and Mailing, the height of our

Retractable Banner Base
The construction of the base and the quality of the materials that the retractable banner is printed on is also very important. Cheap bases are often not weighted properly, and can tip over easily.
If you are using the retractable banner in a heavy traffic area, we recommend using our Premium Retractable Banner as it makes use of a wider and heavier base.
Retractable Banner Materials
If you plan to use the banner outdoors, make sure you are purchasing a retractable banner made for outdoor use.
In terms of the material the banner is printed on, check the following:
- The banner should have a block-out layer (so light does not pass through)
- The materials should be tear resistant
- The material should be water-resistant
- The materials should not cup (curl) over time
Ease of Use
Most retractable banners are used as temporary indoor signage, and at trade shows, so they are made to get moved around. Make sure to consider ease of use.
Our Standard Retractable Banner is only 5 lbs and our Premium Retractable Banner is 11 lbs. Both are on a telescopic pole and can be put up by one person in less than 5 minutes.
